So let's dive deep into my findings:
✅ BLUblox started as a blue-light blocking glasses company but has now diversified into red light therapy, with different panels. The BLUblox Hive Max is their biggest panel
✅ If you're interested in my covering of the Hive Mini, check out my 2021 red light therapy handheld comparison video: https://aferg.co/handheld-YT-review
✅ The price of the panel is $1,062 USD. With discount code ALEX the price becomes $902 though, which is quite decent. What's even better is that BLUblox offers 100% free international shipping - amazing!
✅ The panel is kind of plain in terms of design. The best part is that the panel is really light and that the control panel functions really well, even though it's simple. Modular support is supported too. One small dislike is that the power cables sticks out further than the rubber feet of the panel, but BLUblox says they've altered this design
✅ The size of the Hive Max is 36 inches tall, 8+ inches wide, and a couple of inches deep
✅ Standard accessories are included excluding a manual. I'd like to have seen a manual for beginners in the red light therapy space. There is a small booklet with a link included though
✅ The 1-year warranty and 30-day return policy are a letdown compared to what the competition offers
✅ The panel contains 200 5 Watt LEDs. The LEDs are dual-chip and emit 660 nanometers (nm) and 850 nm. These wavelengths are a bit of a bummer as many people want additional ones. The red light peaks 661.8 nm and infrared at 849.6 nm, which is perfect. Dual chip, moreover, means that the LEDs can emit both types of light from one LED.
✅ The peak power output is 41.1 mW/cm2. For red it's 23.4 mW/cm2 and near-infrared it's 20.3 mW/cm2. Over 9 spots, the average power output is 31.1 mW/cm2. The total power output is 46.5 Watts.
✅ The total power draw for both red and infrared is 518W, for red it's 301W and for infrared it's 229W
✅ The hotspot outcome is decent. The only downside is that you get quite a contrast with the beam angle and a Polkadot effect
✅ From a value perspective, you pay $4.05 USD per LED. The $ USD per total Watt is $19.40, which means you pay a lot of money for one Watt of irradiance. These numbers are slightly disappointing
✅ From the EMF perspective, there are magnetic fields are present and quite high. Flicker wasn't present, which is great. The sound level I measured at 60.2 decibels, which is high, although the pitch isn't irritating, fortunately
✅ How does the Hive Max compare to other BLUblox red light therapy panels? The Min handheld unit is good, and the Hive Demi, which could be useful for targeted treatment. For full-body perspective, and price per Watt, the Hive Max is the best BLUblox option for most customers, unless cost is an issue
✅ How does the Hive Max hold up to competing products? Most panels like the BioMax 600 or Mito Max have much higher irradiance. From a value perspective, other panels are better. The Hive Max also misses bells and whistles, wavelengths, and more, compared to competitors. If you're worried about shipping, other companies like Rouge and Solbasium offer free shipping as well worldwide. The warranty is bad too.
✅ The good? The price for a body panel is good and free shipping too - dual-chip LEDs are great too and the hotspots are okay. The control panel is great too.
✅ The bad? The power plug isn't great, you cannot connect panels together, there's no physical manual. The $USD per Watt is very poor and the EMF levels are concerning.
✅ Conclusion? There are better options on the market!
